Our showcase of the 39 entries to the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest starts off with Estonia this year. As usual, the order of presentation was determined by a random draw (except for the host country Sweden).
When 24-year-old singer Birgit Õigemeel won the Estonian national final ‘Eesti Laul’ on 2nd March, it was a case of third time lucky for her. Birgit had taken part in the Estonian national selection two times before, in 2008 (365 Days, 3rd place) and in 2012 with Violina (You’re Not Alone, 7th place).
In Malmö, Birgit will perform the ballad Et Uus Saaks Alguse (So there can be an new beginning), written by Mihkel Mattisen and Silvia Soro. The song will compete in the first semi-final on 14 May at starting position #2. For Estonia it’s the 19th entry to the Eurovision Song Contest.
