BIOGRAPHY
Maja Keuc was born on 16th January 1992 in Maribor. Her love of performing began when she started dancing and singing in the choir in the seventh grade and when she joined the »English student theatre« in secondary school in Maribor. There she gained her first stage experience in all areas: singing, dancing and acting. She participated in musicals »We Will Rock You« and »Feel the Beat«. As a member of the ensemble she performed on all major Slovenian stages as well as in Italy and Croatia. At the age of 13 she joined the rock band called Hrošči (Engl. transl: Bugs), where she started performing original music. The band was successfully active mostly in their region for 3 years, then split due to varying music interests. Maja is also interested in other music genres, especially in soul, jazz and blues. Singing in jam sessions in the Satchmo club in Maribor, she met renowned Slovenian musicians she later started working with. In October 2009, aged 17, she performed in the national TV show called Hri-bar for the first time.
The break in her career came with participation in the TV show »Slovenia’s Got Talent«, where she won second place. During that time she also graduated from general upper secondary school in Maribor. She was also nominated for GONG media awards in “the most popular music act” category. In the fall of 2010 she performed together with renowned musicians such as Tony Cetinski, Uroš Perić, violinist Stefan Milenković and Grammy nominee guitarist Edin Karamazov. In 2010, she joined the music project called Papir (Engl transl: Paper), where her vocal teacher Ana Bezjak sings as well. In 2010 Papir released a CD titled »Po viharju« (Engl transl: After the Storm), which was successfully promoted through video and live concerts throughout Slovenia.
She has been dubbed the Christina Aguilera or Anastacia of Slovenia. But in the face of such comparisons, Maja Keuc just smiles and shakes her head. However, she did manage to grab the place of the runner-up of Slovenia’s Got Talent. Now she will prove herself to the world in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
She is described as a self-critical girl with both feet on the ground and a firm belief in the good in this world. Her goal is to enter the final at the Eurovision Song Contest and to release a debut CD in 2011.
