“1944” – Jamala wins the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest for Ukraine

Congratulations to Jamala! The 32-year-old Ukrainian singer won the 61st Eurovision Song Contest, held last night at Globen Arena, Stockholm, Sweden. Her self-penned entry 1944 scored a total of 534 points. It’s the second Eurovision win for Ukraine, having previously triumphed in 2004 with Ruslana and Wild Dances.

The Australian entry Sound Of Silence, performed by Dami Im, finished in second place collecting 511 points, followed by Russia’s Sergey Lazarev and the song You Are The Only One with 491 points. The fourth place went to Poli Genova from Bulgaria with the song If Love Was A Crime, 307 points, while host country Sweden came fifth with Frans’ If I Were Sorry scoring 261 points.
