This is the Balkans – traditional yet stylish: Serbia’s Milan Stanković

Ovo Je Balkan, this is the Balkans,  is the title of Serbia’s contribution to the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. The song was written by the renowned composer Goran Bregović, with lyrics by Marina Tucaković, Ljiljana Jorgovanović & Goran Bregović, and will be performed by the talented and stylish Milan Stanković. “Ovo Je Balkan” is Serbia’s 4th entry at the Eurovision Song Contest as an independent state, and will compete in the 1st Semi-Final on 25th May, at starting position #7.

About Milan Stanković

Milan Stankovic is born on September 9th of 1987 in Belgrade, Serbia.

In 2007, he participates in “Zvezde Granda” musical contest. Soon he becomes an absolute favorite of the audience (SMS votes put him in the first place in 12 out of 14 contest shows). Tanks to many fans, he enters the super finale and attracts  significant media attraction.

In the same year, his singles appear on the compilation disks “Zvezde Granda” (circulation of 100,000 copies). In addition to performances in the former Yugoslavia territory, he also recorded great success in his performances in Switzerland and USA.

In May of 2009, Milan’s debut album “Solo” is out and reaches sales of 50 000 copies. Songs from the album “Solo” soon become absolute hits. Young people across the region establish fan clubs, send him gifts and letters, and imitate his eccentric clothing style and  distinctive hairstyle. The excitement around him media calls “Milanomania”. By the end of October of 2009, the video for the song “Face” came out and received very positive reviews.

Because of the recognizable voice, appearance and attitude, in short time Milan became one of the most loved and disputed stars. He leaves no one indifferent – while many love him, others challenge him.  One thing is certain – the media and fans closely follow his every move!
