Moldova has sent eight entries to the Eurovision Song Contest to date, and with the very first one, Zdob si Zdub’s Bunika Bate Toba, the country achieved its best result to date, a sixth place at the 2005 Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Only once Moldova failed to qualify for the Grand Final.
This year’s national selection, ‘O Melodie Pentru Europa‘, was held in March, and in a neck-and-neck race with Boris Covali (Runaways), Aliona Moon took the win with the song A Million, written and composed by Iuliana Scutaru and Pasha Parfeny who represented Moldova last year in Baku. After the national final it was announced that Aliona would sing the Romanian version in Malmö, entitled O Mie. Moldova’s ninth entry to the Eurovision Song Contest will participate in the first semi-final on 14 May at starting position #12.
