SWEDEN – Robin Stjernberg – You

SE_Robin Stjernberg_0

As usual we close our annual viewing of the ESC participants with the host country, which is of course Sweden this year. With Loreen’s fabulous win last year in Baku, Sweden has accumulated five wins now in over fifty years of participation (ABBA in 1974, Herreys in 1984,  Carola in 1991,  Charlotte Perrelli (Nilsson in 1999),  and of course Loreen in 2012).  The country reached the top five another fifteen times, which makes it one of the most successful competitors in Eurovision.

Winner of this year’s Melodifestivalen, the national selection for the ESC, was 22-year-old Robin Stjernberg with the song You, written by Robin himself, together with Linnea Deb, Joy Deb and Joakim Harestad Haukaas. For the first time ever, the Melodifestivalen winner came out of the Second Chance round. Sweden has been allocated to compete in the Grand Final on 18 May at starting position #16.
