Serbia made its debut as an independent nation in 2007 in Helsinki, where Marija Šerifovic triumphed with the ballad Molitva, becoming the first country that won the Eurovision Song Contest with its debut entry after Switzerland’s win at the first edition in 1956. It was also the first song containing no English language lyrics to win since 1998 (Diva). Serbia finished in the top ten two more times, in 2008 with Jelena Tomaševic (Oro, placed 6th) and last year in Baku with Željko Joksimovic (Nije Ljubav Stvar, placed 3rd).
Winner of this year’s ‘Beosong’, the country’s national selection for the ESC, was the girl group Moje 3 consisting of Mirna Radulovic, Nevena Božovic, and Sara Jovanovic. Their entry for Malmö, Ljubav Je Svuda (Love Is Everywhere), was written by Saša Miloševic Mare, with lyrics by Marina Tucakovic who also wrote the lyrics of the 2010 Serbian entry Ovo Je Balkan. Ljubav Je Svuda will be performed in the first semi-final on 14 May at starting position #16.
