Azerbaijan’s entry for Eurovision Malmö 2013 is the country’s sixth contribution to the Contest, and for the first time a male solo artist has been chosen to carry the flag: 21-year old Farid Mammadov won the national final in March with the song Hold Me, composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos, with lyrics by John Ballard and Ralph Charlie. Azerbaijan has a short but very successful ESC history, won the Contest in 2011 with Ell/Nikki (Running Scared), and came third, fourth, fifth and eighth with the other four entries.
Farid Mammadov will compete in the second semi-final on 16 May at starting position #4. Will he continue Azerbaijan’s ESC success story? You can download Hold Me on iTunes and amazon, and you’re welcome to follow Farid’s activities on facebook https://www.facebook.com/faridmammadov.esc.
