Denmark has had a long and rather successful history at the Eurovision Song Contest. The country has sent 41 entries to the Contest to date, and more than half of them reached the top ten, 23 songs to be precise. Denmark won twice, in 1963 with Grethe & Jørgen Ingman (Dansevise) and in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers (Fly On The Wings Of Love).
At this year’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, the national final for Eurovision, ten entries competed for the honour to represent their country in Malmö. The song Only Teardrops, performed by Emmelie de Forest, composed & written by Lise Cabble, Julia Fabrin Jakobsen and Thomas Stengaard, gained the maximum points in the votings. Songwriter Lise Cabble is a familiar name among ESC fans, she co-wrote two of the most successful and most popular Danish Eurovision entries: Fra Mols til Skagen (Aud Wilken in 1995) and New Tomorrow (A Friend In London in 2011).
Denmark’s 2013 entry Only Teardrops has been allocated to compete in the first semi-final on 14 May at starting position #6.
