Malta debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971. After three not so successful entries, the island state decided to withdraw after their 1975 participation and returned only 16 years later for the 1991 Contest held in Rome, Italy. Since then, Malta is a constant participant, hasn’t won yet, but achieved two second places with Ira Losco (2002) and Chiara (2005), and two third places with Mary Spiteri (1992) and Chiara (1998).
This year’s representative is 23-year old Gianluca Bezzina who won the national final on 2 February with the song Tomorrow, written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat. Malta’s 26th entry to the Eurovision Song Contest will be performed in the second semi-final on 16 May at starting position #6. Just like all the other Malmö entries, Tomorrow Iis available for to download on iTunes and amazon, and you can follow Gianluca’s activities on facebook www.facebook.com/gianlucabezzina1.
