Switzerland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since its beginning in 1956, the year that also marks the country’s first win with Lys Assia and Refrain. A second win came in 1988 with Celine Dion (Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi) who started her world career shortly after. Over the past two decades Switzerland fared less successfully, reached the top ten only on two occasions, in 1993 with Annie Cotton (Moi, Tout Simplement, 3rd place) and in 2005 with Vanilla Ninja (Cool Vibes, 8th place).
The 6-piece band Takasa, originally named Heilsarmee (Salvation Army), won this year’s Swiss national selection with the song You And Me, written by Georg Schlunegger, Roman Camenzind and Fred Herrmann. You And Me is the 54th Swiss entry to the Eurovision Song Contest and will be performed in the second semi-final at starting position #16.
